WITH IT getting harder to avoid tripping over the latest new whiskey distillery to pop up (see p17), it is not surprising to learn that punters are throwing money at the sector and this is clearly the case for a little outfit called Ahascragh Distillers Ltd, set up by former chemical engineer Gareth McAllister.

The fledgling venture is developing an operation in the village of Ahascragh in Co Galway and had already raised a few million euro before this year.

Now documents filed in the Companies Office show that the moolah keeps on flowing. Coming on board as part of a €400,000 fundraiser in April were Bryan and Dolores Campion (a combined €200,000), who are associated with podcasting outfit Prymal Productions. Another €200,000 was raised from Kildare-based Kevin Cooke of Abbeyvale Developments.

This follows on foot of €300,000 raised for Gareth McAllister’s venture just before Christmas from Portmarnock investor Richard Cregan and Basel-based Kieran Murray.
