LOOKS LIKE the long-established Parnells GAA club in Coolock, D5, might have scored an own goal following a costly lawsuit. Certainly, someone took their eye off the ball to allow recruitment firm Barry M Whelan to slip in and register a near €20,000 judgment against the famous club last month.
There may also be another problem to be dealt with next season, judging by a filing by the club’s former auditors, J McEvoy & Co.
No accounts have been filed by The Parnell GAA Club Ltd since those for 2017, which showed income of just over €3m and assets (pitches, clubhouse, etc) of €11.7m.
What was filed last year, however, was the resignation of the company’s auditors, which stated: “We confirm that there are circumstances connected with our resignation which we consider should be brought to the notice of the members or creditors” of the company. A copy of the letter was forwarded to the Registrar of Companies so there may yet be a need for Hawkeye to determine who, if anyone, was at fault in the club.
