Local Business Raising Awareness About the Dangers of Skin Cancer

Sunire

SUNiRE is the brainchild of Linda Chanders – a wife, mother, and entrepreneur, who faced the life-changing diagnosis of malignant melanoma in 2021. She discovered a small black spot on her leg, sought medical advice, and had to undergo surgery, all during Covid-19. This journey has inspired Linda to develop SUNiRE Protect – a face shield that helps battle dangerous levels of UV exposure.

In Ireland, over 13,000 new cases are diagnosed each year, and that figure is expected to double by 2040. The face shield is designed not only for skin cancer patients but for anyone that wants to enjoy the outdoors while staying protected.

The soft, reversible, and washable UPF50 fabric is easy and comfortable to wear. It can be used by athletes and people of all ages while running, golfing, swimming, hiking, playing tennis, or simply gardening.

SUNiRE is funded by Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers Phase 3 programme, which commenced this month. It aims to develop more wearable items, as well as an online hub, which would be a space for discussion by survivors, their carers, and anyone in between.

SUNiRE intends to hit the UK and USA market at the end of Q1. The face shield is available in six colours, and 5% of all profits are being donated to the Irish Cancer Society.
